regarding your casual racism
Date: 2025-04-23 01:26 am (UTC)You stated that “all the men in Deepspace look alike.” While you might think this is a harmless observation especially when comparing them to more stylized, anime-influenced designs like those in Genshin Impact, it’s a concerning example of casual racism.
To be frank, I have no interest in roleplaying with you anymore, especially after witnessing your behavior in other games. However, your Plurk post has been circulating, and it eventually made its way to me. After reading it, I feel compelled to speak up. You’re not the victim here, not when you so casually look at designs that are standard and culturally accepted in many Chinese and broader Asian spaces, and choose to mock them.
Yes, it’s true that people from different racial backgrounds sometimes struggle to distinguish features outside of their own, this is a documented phenomenon. But that difficulty is rooted in racial bias, and brushing it off as harmless just reinforces stereotypes. When you say these designs are “boring” or indistinct simply because they’re not what you’re used to, you’re effectively saying, “They’re different from me, they’re from a Chinese company, and therefore they’re lesser.” That mindset is not just casually racist, it’s actively harmful.
Even if you think other games also have “same face” issues, that doesn’t excuse your dismissive attitude toward Deepspace. Whether you realize it or not, your commentary reflects internalized biases.
Deepspace is clearly resonating with a wide audience, particularly in Asian communities, and it’s painfully obvious you neither understand it nor have engaged with it in good faith. Frankly, I hope you don’t, because the way you talk about it suggests you lack the cultural awareness or willingness to appreciate the nuances rooted in Chinese storytelling and aesthetics.
Call it what you want, but dismissing these characters and designs simply because they’re unfamiliar or don’t cater to Western norms is racist. Just because it’s casual doesn’t mean it’s harmless.
Please do yourself and everyone else a favor: reflect, listen, and educate yourself instead of doubling down on ignorance. You’re only embarrassing yourself and the company you keep.
